Angela Schonauer Crawford

Angela Crawford teaches Spanish and coaches the track and field and cross-country teams at Red Bird Christian School. Angela joined the Red Bird School faculty in 1992 soon after she graduated from Asbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky with a B.A. in Spanish secondary education. She subsequently earned an M.A. in education from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

“I teach K-12 Spanish every day and coach cross country in the fall and track in the spring,” Angela says. “I help to provide opportunities for high school students to experience mission and service through weekend spiritual life retreats in Maryville, Tennessee each spring, and a 10-day mission trip to Puerto Rico every other summer…I try to let God’s love and light shine through my life in all I do.”

Angela grew up in the West Ohio Annual Conference, where her grandfather, Joseph Mullenix, served as a pastor for 45 years. Her grandmother, Mary, was active in the Newark District of United Methodist Women. Her grandparents and her parents were important influences on her life and sense of mission. She went on several mission trips, including to Bolivia, Honduras, and Spain during college.

“Growing up in the church and attending a Christian college,” she says, “I remember listening to countless sermons about mission, and those helped shape my beliefs and understanding of mission. I believe we are to share God’s love and His Word with others. The verses which remind me of this include Matthew 9:37-38: ‘Then he said to his disciples, “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few….”‘ and Mark 16:15: ‘He said to them, “Go into the world and preach the good news to all creation.”‘ We are to be the hands and feet of God, letting his light shine through our lives in all we do.”

Angela is a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She is married to Tim Crawford, Development Director at Red Bird Mission.
