The inaugural volleyball season for Red Bird Christian alumna Allison Gray was a successful one, thanks to a good mix of seniors and younger players. “They are a smart group of girls,” said the 2016 graduate.

“They know what they want, and they will do anything to get what they want.

“I don’t know how to explain it. If you’ve ever seen them play, you’ll know it.”

The Lady Cardinals finished the season at 9-8, but that record is deceiving.

“We had a winning record, which is good, but I feel like we could have been better but took some losses because of COVID,” she said.

Seniors for Red Bird were Liberty Taylor, Halee Jackson, and McKenzie Lawson, and Gray said she will miss them.
“Halee was so good on the back line that she will be missed along with Liberty and McKenzie,” Gray said. “We do have some good young players to fill in. Lauren Osborne, for example, can fill in for Kenzie, because she has the size but we need to build up her confidence that Kenzie has.”

Coach Gray has enjoyed her first season back at Red Bird.

“Growing up here I always wanted to come back to Red Bird. Even after graduation I knew this is where I wanted to come back to. It feels like a privilege to be able to represent Red Bird as a coach instead of a student.
